Demystifying 3 Common Misconceptions about Air Compressor Service

Though compressed air systems have been around for many years, they are still misunderstood. The various myths and misconceptions about them often lead to inefficient operations. These inefficiencies adversely affect your bottom line through the addition of extra operating costs or reduced throughput capabilities. To help you avoid unnecessary air compressor service, there are a few common misconceptions or myths you need to be aware of.

In today’s blog, we tackle three big myths about air compressor service:

Myth #1. Bigger pipes add more storage volume

Many people still believe that they can have extra storage if they upsize their compressed airlines. However, the reality is that clearing space for a larger receiver tank is the correct solution for having extra storage. Larger sized piping, on the other hand, allows the compressor to operate at a lower pressure because it minimizes pressure loss in the entire compression system. If you plan to upsize piping, you also need to install a larger receiver.

Myth #2. Increasing the pressure solves most problems

Most often, issues with low pressure are just temporary. They can be due to something being amiss in the production areas or be caused by other issues with the connectors, hoses, and poorly sized piping. Adding up the pressure instantly without dealing with the root cause of the problem can result in serious problems in the compressor room and higher energy consumption. It can also produce more heat inside the compressor, leading to shutdowns and higher maintenance costs. It can even cause air-dryer problems. This is why it’s important that an expert in air compressor service provider investigates the issue to solve the real problem.

Myth #3. Changing the filters during high differentials

One of the most common pressure constraints in compressed air systems is the filter-pressure differential. More often than not, the operator usually waits for the differential-gauge to be at high levels before they choose to replace the filters. This can be really problematic as most filters are not working at the rated flow. This means simply looking at filters when there are average loads will not accurately reveal issues.

All in all, it is recommended for you to adhere to best practices and call a provider of air compressor service to check on your machines if you notice issues with their performance. Not doing so may result in the need for repairs and other costly issues.
